Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Your Home, Your Independence, Your Way

At High Support Care, we believe independence is not about doing everything alone—it's about having the right support so you can live life on your own terms. Our Supported Independent Living services help NDIS participants with higher support needs to live comfortably in a shared or individual home while building the skills to manage daily life with confidence.

We go beyond providing a place to live. We create a safe, welcoming environment where you can make your own choices, stay connected to your community, and work towards your personal goals.

Supported Independent Living

What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?

SIL is an NDIS-funded support that helps with daily tasks for people living in shared accommodation or their own homes. It suits participants who need substantial support—often around the clock—to manage their day-to-day lives.

Unlike occasional drop-in support, SIL is ongoing and comprehensive. Our approach is to work alongside you, not just for you. We focus on building your capacity so you're actively involved in your household routine rather than simply receiving care.

How We Support You

Our support is tailored to you. Whether you need standard assistance or high-intensity care, our qualified team works with you to develop a Roster of Care that matches your NDIS plan and goals.

Our daily support includes:

Personal care and hygiene—dignified help with showering, dressing, and grooming

Household management—support with cooking nutritious meals, cleaning, and laundry

Skill development—hands-on support with budgeting, bill paying, and using public transport

Medication management—safe administration and oversight of your medications

Community connection—transport and support to attend social groups, appointments, and activities

24/7 presence—overnight support (active or inactive) for your safety and peace of mind

Understanding Your Funding

NDIS funding can be confusing. Here's a clear breakdown of how SIL funding works at High Support Care.

What NDIS SIL Funding Covers

Support workers to assist you daily; skill development programs; capacity building activities; sleepover or active night support.

What You Pay For (Personal Expenses)

Rent and accommodation bond; groceries and household bills (utilities); personal items and toiletries; board and lodging fees.

SIL vs SDA

The physical house or apartment is often funded separately under Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) if you're eligible. Our team can help you understand the difference between SIL (the support) and SDA (the building) in your plan.

High Support Care SIL

Is SIL Right for You?

You may be eligible for SIL funding if you're an NDIS participant aged 18 or over who has high support needs requiring significant assistance throughout the day, a permanent disability that affects your functional capacity, would benefit from living away from family to build independence, or needs a safe, structured environment to develop life skills.

Not sure about your eligibility? Our team can review your NDIS plan and guide you through the Home and Living Supports Request process.

A Roster of Care is a document that outlines the support you need each day, including the number of staff, their roles, and when they're required. It's used to determine your SIL funding and ensures your NDIS plan reflects your actual support needs.
