Understanding the NDIS

Making the NDIS Simple

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way of providing individualised support for people with disability, their families, and carers. It is designed to give you choice and control over the support you receive.

At High Support Care, we don't just deliver services—we help you understand the system so you can get the most out of your funding.

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS is a Commonwealth Government initiative that funds support services for Australians under the age of 65 living with a permanent and significant disability.

The goal is simple: to provide the reasonable and necessary supports you need to live an ordinary life and achieve your personal goals.

Who is Eligible?

Not everyone with a disability is an NDIS participant. To access the scheme, you generally need to meet the following criteria:

Age

Be aged between 7 and 65 years at the time of application.

Residency

Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.

Disability

Have a permanent impairment that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities, or require early intervention (for children).

Understanding Your Funding

Your NDIS plan is divided into three main budgets. Understanding these helps you know what you can claim.

1. Core Supports (The "Right Now" Support)

This budget helps you with everyday activities and your current disability-related needs. It is flexible, meaning you can often move funds between categories.

2. Capacity Building (The "Future" Support)

This budget is for building your independence and skills for the future. Funds here are strictly allocated to specific categories.

3. Capital Supports (The "Big Ticket" Support)

This funds investments, such as expensive assistive technology (wheelchairs), equipment, or home and vehicle modifications.

Support Coordination: Navigating Your Journey

The NDIS can be complex. That is why Support Coordination exists. If funded in your plan, our Support Coordinators can:

We offer both Level 2 (Coordination of Supports) and Level 3 (Specialist Support Coordination) for complex situations.
