Your skillset is a huge part of your identity. It defines what you can do, where you can go, and how you see yourself. At High Support Care, we don't just focus on who you are today—we focus on who you want to become.
Our Life Skills Development programs are designed to foster existing talents and build new capabilities, giving you the tools to live as autonomously as possible.
Unlike standard daily support (which helps you complete a task), Life Skills Development is about training and education. It is typically funded under the Capacity Building section of your NDIS plan.
Our goal is to work ourselves out of a job. We want to teach you the skills so that, eventually, you may not need us there at all.
We create a personalised learning plan based on your long-term goals. Whether you want to move out of home, get a job, or simply manage your own money, we have a program for you.
Budgeting: Learning how to plan your weekly spending. Banking: Understanding how to use ATMs, online banking, and pay bills. Money Handling: Safe practices for handling cash and understanding value.
Cooking: Moving beyond "heating up" to "cooking from scratch." Maintenance: Basic home repairs, changing lightbulbs, and safety checks. Organisation: Creating routines that keep your home clean and stress-free.
Self-Advocacy: Learning how to speak up for your needs and rights. Digital Literacy: Using computers, email, and social media safely to stay connected. Emotional Regulation: Strategies to manage stress and navigate social conflicts.
Travel Training: Mastering public transport (Myki, maps, timetables). Road Safety: Understanding rules for pedestrians and safe travel practices.
We don't teach in a classroom; we teach in the real world. Our support workers facilitate "learning by doing." We encourage you to experiment, make choices, and even make mistakes (safely), because that is how true learning happens.
Step 1: Goal Setting. We sit down with you and your family to identify exactly what you want to achieve.
Step 2: Practical Practice. We practice the skill together in real-life scenarios (e.g. going to the actual bank, cooking a real dinner).
Step 3: Progress Tracking. Our management team documents your achievements to satisfy NDIS reporting requirements and show you how far you have come.
This support is ideal for NDIS participants who:
Are preparing to move into Supported Independent Living (SIL).
Are transitioning from school to adulthood.
Want to reduce their reliance on carers over time.
You have the potential. We have the roadmap. Let's build your independence together.
Daily support helps you complete a task (e.g. cooking a meal for you). Life Skills Development is about training and education—teaching you to do it yourself so you can become more independent over time. It is typically funded under Capacity Building in your NDIS plan.
We create a personalised learning plan based on your long-term goals. We use a "learning by doing" approach—practising skills in real-life scenarios rather than in a classroom. We track your progress and document achievements for NDIS reporting.
We offer programs in financial independence (budgeting, banking, money handling), household autonomy (cooking, maintenance, organisation), communication and social skills (self-advocacy, digital literacy, emotional regulation), and transport and community (travel training, road safety).
Contact our team to discuss your goals. We'll explain how our programs work, check your NDIS Capacity Building funding, and create a personalised learning plan tailored to you.
