Caring for a loved one is a rewarding journey, but it is also a demanding one. At High Support Care, we understand that to provide the best care, you need time to recharge.
Our Short-Term Accommodation (STA)—commonly known as Respite—offers a flexible solution that benefits everyone. It gives caregivers a well-deserved rest while providing NDIS participants with a safe, enjoyable "holiday" away from their usual routine, filled with new activities and social connections.
Short-Term Accommodation (STA) is NDIS-funded support for when you need to live out of home for a short period. It is designed to support you when your usual carers are unavailable or simply when you need a change of scenery.
It is more than just a bed. Our STA services in Melbourne include everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Qualified staff available day and night to assist with personal care and medication.
A safe, accessible home environment (often called "Cottage Respite").
All daily meals and refreshments are included.
Fun, community-based activities tailored to your interests.
We know that every family's situation is unique. That is why we offer different types of respite across the Cranbourne, Frankston, and Mornington Peninsula areas.
Best for: Participants who feel most comfortable in their own environment. Our support worker comes to your home for a few hours or overnight. This allows the primary caregiver to step out for appointments, social events, or simply to get a full night's sleep while we handle the care, cooking, and companionship.
Day programs and community outings where you can enjoy activities, socialise with peers, and explore new interests while your carer takes a break. Ideal for shorter breaks or regular weekly respite.
Overnight stays in a dedicated respite home with 24/7 support, meals, and activities. A true "holiday" experience—safe, comfortable, and filled with new experiences. Stays of up to 14 days at a time.
When unexpected situations arise—illness, family emergency, or carer burnout—we can arrange urgent respite to ensure you and your loved one are supported. We respond quickly when you need us most.
If you have funding for Core Supports in your NDIS plan, you can likely access STA. The funding typically covers the total cost of 24-hour support, including:
Personal care assistance (showering, dressing). Accommodation costs in a respite home. Food and dining. Negotiated activities (movies, bowling, day trips).
Note: STA is generally funded for up to 14 days at a time. Our team can help you check your plan to see how many respite days you have available.
We make respite a positive experience for everyone.
Our staff are rigorously screened and trained to handle complex medical needs and behavioural support.
Our respite homes feature ramps, wide hallways, anti-slip flooring, and lowered amenities to accommodate wheelchairs and mobility aids.
We don't just "watch" you. We create an itinerary of activities—from art classes to beach visits—so your time away feels like a true vacation.
We view ourselves as partners to the primary carer. We follow your routine to ensure a smooth transition back home.
Whether you need emergency support or are planning a weekend getaway, we are here to make it happen.
In-Home Respite means a support worker comes to your home for a few hours or overnight while your carer takes a break. STA (Short-Term Accommodation) means you stay away from home in a respite facility with 24/7 support, meals, and activities. Both can be funded under Core Supports in your NDIS plan.
STA is generally funded for up to 14 days at a time. The number of respite days in your plan depends on your NDIS assessment. Our team can help you check your plan and explain how your funding works.
